A Song of degrees.

1 I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.
2 My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth. My help – The Lord's people never needed help more than at the present. The difficulty with some, however, is that they do not realize their need. R4311:1

Cometh from the LORD – Not relying on our own strength or wisdom or the assistance of our fellows; not despising assistance from any quarter, but receiving it in the conviction that it comes from the Lord. R4311:2

3 He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.
4 Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. Slumber nor sleep – Whether we call on him in the busy hours of the day or in the silent watches of the night he is near to sustain, uphold, and protect, whether we realize his presence or not. R5549:1

5 The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand. LORD is thy keeper – The great Covenant Keeper, who has promised and who will not fail in his promises. R3632:2

He would protect them as long as they would be loyal to him. R5626:2

6 The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.
7 The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.
8 The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore. Preserve thy going – Refers especially to the spiritual life of the Lord's consecrated people. R1682:4
