1 Sing to Jehovah a new song, Sing to Jehovah all the earth. O sing unto the LORD – The judgment day, instead of being a time of terror, distress and sorrow, is represented in the Scriptures as being a special time of joy and gladness for the world. Q853:4; HG273:5

2 Sing to Jehovah, bless His name, Proclaim from day to day His salvation.
3 Declare among nations His honour, Among all the peoples His wonders.
4 For great [is] Jehovah, and praised greatly, Fearful He [is] over all gods. Above all gods – Elohim, mighty ones--a name applied to Jehovah. E68

5 For all the gods of the peoples [are] nought, And Jehovah made the heavens. Are idols – Septuagint: demons. So Romish nations stand under demoniacal tutelage, just as did the Gentiles of old. R1991:5

6 Honour and majesty [are] before Him, Strength and beauty in His sanctuary.
7 Ascribe to Jehovah, O families of the peoples, Ascribe to Jehovah honour and strength.
8 Ascribe to Jehovah the honour of His name, Lift up a present and come in to His courts.
9 Bow yourselves to Jehovah, In the honour of holiness, Be afraid of His presence, all the earth. Worship the LORD – The worship of the one true God is elevating and ennobling, and calculated to develop in us the moral likeness of God. R1836:1

Beauty of holiness – In the spirit of the truth. R1836:1


10 Say among nations, 'Jehovah hath reigned, Also established is the world, unmoved, He judgeth the peoples in uprightness.' Among the heathen – It is the privilege of the saints to tell the glad tidings to all who will hear. R5989:2

The LORD reigneth – Blessing not only the living, but also those who have fallen asleep in death. R5706:4

Judge the people – The saints are to be judges with Christ. R5776:2


11 The heavens joy, and the earth is joyful, The sea and its fulness roar. Heavens ... earth – Not only the saints, but the whole earth. R5989:2

12 The field exulteth, and all that [is] in it, Then sing do all trees of the forest, Field be joyful – Prefigured by the High Priest, when he lifted up his hands and blessed the people. R1248:4

"The whole earth is at rest and is quiet; they break forth into singing." (Isa. 14:7) R1248:5

Trees of the wood – "The trees of the field (the people) shall clap their hands." (Isa. 55:12) R1024:4


13 Before Jehovah, for He hath come, For He hath come to judge the earth. He judgeth the world in righteousness, And the peoples in His faithfulness! For he cometh – When he appears, day appears, life appears, fruitfulness appears; the curse departs; difficulties, wars, troubles, sorrows vanish; it is the world's Jubilee. R302:3*

He who so loved us as to give his life for our ransom comes again to reign. R1352:2

To judge the world – The object of the second coming of Christ is to bless all the families of the earth. HG315:4

Rewarding with restored perfection the willing and worthy, and cutting off from life forever all wilful sinners. R1073:4

With righteousness – Swift and unerring justice. D519
