1 A Song of the Ascents.
I lift up mine eyes unto the hills, Whence doth my help come
2 My help [is] from Jehovah, maker of heaven and earth, My help – The Lord's people never needed help more than at the present. The difficulty with some, however, is that they do not realize their need. R4311:1

Cometh from the LORD – Not relying on our own strength or wisdom or the assistance of our fellows; not despising assistance from any quarter, but receiving it in the conviction that it comes from the Lord. R4311:2

3 He suffereth not thy foot to be moved, Thy preserver slumbereth not.
4 Lo, He slumbereth not, nor sleepeth, He who is preserving Israel. Slumber nor sleep – Whether we call on him in the busy hours of the day or in the silent watches of the night he is near to sustain, uphold, and protect, whether we realize his presence or not. R5549:1

5 Jehovah [is] thy preserver, Jehovah [is] thy shade on thy right hand, LORD is thy keeper – The great Covenant Keeper, who has promised and who will not fail in his promises. R3632:2

He would protect them as long as they would be loyal to him. R5626:2

6 By day the sun doth not smite thee, Nor the moon by night.
7 Jehovah preserveth thee from all evil, He doth preserve thy soul.
8 Jehovah preserveth thy going out and thy coming in, From henceforth even unto the age! Preserve thy going – Refers especially to the spiritual life of the Lord's consecrated people. R1682:4
