We are told that 30th year is the 5th year of king Jehoiachin's captivity. Jehoiachin was taken captive at the time Zedekiah was set up as king. Zedekiah was the last king of Judah and his reign lasted 11 years.
We are then told that this was on the fifth day of the month, but we are not expressly told which month. However, since verse 1 refers to "the fourth month" and "the fifth day of the month," it seems to be suggesting that this is the same day, i.e., month 4, day 5. So what does that do for us? Zedekiah began his reign 11 years prior to the desolation of the land, thus in 617 B.C. (606 B.C. - 11 = 617 B.C.) Jehoiachin went into captivity. The fifth year of his captivity would seem to indicate the year 612 B.C. (617 B.C. + 5 = 612 B.C.) |
